Silvio Tavares is the President and CEO of The CardLinx Association, the leading global standards and interoperability organization for the payments and digital advertising industries. CardLinx board members include Facebook, Samsung, Microsoft, MasterCard, Discover, Rakuten, American Express, Airbnb, Bank Mitsubishi UFJ and Sumitomo Mitsui Card Corporation among others. Silvio also serves on the board of directors of CPI Card Group (NASDAQ: PMTS), the leading US provider of payment and EMV chip cards.
Previously, Tavares was Senior Vice President and Global Head of Information Products at Visa Inc. He led Visa’s Global Information and Data Analytics business comprising several product lines including Global Risk & Authentication Products. He was also President of Visa EMVCo Holdings, the holding company for Visa’s participation in EMVCo.
Prior to Visa, Silvio was Senior Vice President and General Manager for First Data’s Global Information & Analytics business. Among other key innovations, he established and patented First Data’s flagship SpendTrend macro-economic indicator.
Earlier in his career, Silvio was an investment banker and capital markets attorney. He served as Director and Head of Financial Technology Investment Banking for ABN AMRO Bank in London where he led successful fund raisings and IPOs totaling over $10 billion. He Joined ABN AMRO from the law firm Shearman and Sterling where he practiced corporate finance law, primarily representing large European financial technology companies and investment banks executing capital raising transactions or acquisitions. He began his career at AT&T as an engineer where he authored one of the earliest business method patents for web based payments.
Silvio obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Tufts University, an MBA from Boston College and a Juris Doctor degree from the Boston University School of Law (Oxford University Program). He is a member of the New York Bar and has authored over fifteen patents in the field of electronic payments and payment analytics. Tavares speaks French, Portuguese, Spanish and conversational Korean.
